The Swiss stone pine grows high up in the mountains at the edge of the wood, at a see level between 1700 and 2100 meters. Due to the surroundings the pine tree grows slowly and it takes hundreds of years for the tree to reach a stately size. The wood of the Swiss stone pine has a reddish color, is very soft and because the wood is rich on oil, it dispenses a particular smell. The smell of the Swiss stone pine is associated with calmness and should lower the blood pressure. Therefore a lot of South Tyrolean bedrooms are entirely made out of Swiss stone pine.
