There are several different legends about St. Wendelin. He is also associated with St. Orange, who is said to have been his sister. He is also said to have been the founder and first abbot of Tholey Abbey. Wendelin is said to have come from a royal family, but he is said to have chosen a life in the service of God. He searched for undisturbed places and came as far as Blies and Saar. There he met a nobleman who made him his cattle herder.

Wendelin was ashamed of Wendelin's humility and piety, so he built Wendelin a cell near a monastery.

Legend has it that Wendelin was buried by monks after his death, but that the next day his body lay next to the grave. So the dead man was put on an ox wagon and the animals were allowed to find their way. Finally they came to his old place of worship, where Wendelin finally found his peace.

As you can see from the figure, St. Wendelin is usually depicted with a shepherd's crook and animals, such as the sheep on his shoulder here, as an attribute.

Wendelin's feast day is October 20. He is the patron saint of shepherds and peasants, farmers, day laborers and agricultural workers.

This wooden figure of St. Wendelin is available in several different sizes. For the sizes 55 cm, 75 cm and 100 cm we use lime wood and the figures are carved by hand. For the smaller sizes, we use sycamore. The figure is available in four different finishes: natural, stained, three-color stained or hand-painted.
