Kaspar, Melchior and Balthasar, also known as the three wise men from the East, are led by the comet star to pay homage to the Saviour. They come with their accompanying figures and symbolise the three continents of Europe, Asia and Africa, as well as the three ages of life. They bring the Christ Child gold, frankincense and myrrh as gifts. The three kings are an integral part of the Alpine nativity scene tradition. In the Christian calendar, the event is called Epiphany, which is celebrated on 6 January.

These figures from the Bachmann crèche are carved from wood. Local ash is used to make them and they are lovingly modelled by local artists.
