The elephant boy of the South Tyrolean Bachmann crèche appeals mainly to children, but also to many adults. The artist Bachmann Josef is keen to make the crib suitable for children and is constantly designing new figures in simple, stylised shapes.
The figures are carved from ash wood in South Tyrol and painted by hand.
